How To Make Your Own All-Natural Potato and Vegetable Chips at Home

Create delicious all-natural vegetables chips at home with a few basic ingredients.

Making your own guilt free chips at home is easy and inexpensive. With a few simple ingredients, a basic kitchen mandolin, and a little bit of time, you can create a healthy snack with all natural ingredients and taste.

Step One

Gather your ingredients and equipment. For this how-to you will need:

  • Various root vegetables (Sweet Potatoes, Russet Potatoes, Beets)
  • Mature Green Kale
  • Kitchen Mandolin
  • Olive oil cooking spray
  • Sea Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Spices (optional)

Step Two

Pre-heat your oven to 325 degrees. Wash and peel your root vegetables thoroughly. Using a kitchen mandolin, slice your root vegetables as thin as the mandolin will let you, into chips. Place the potatoes in cool water to prevent browning while you prepare the rest of your vegetables. Peel and slice red and golden beets as thin as possible and place in a separate bowl of water.  Chop mature kale leaves into pieces that are similar in size to your root vegetable slices. Once all of your vegetables are cleaned and sliced, lay them in a single layer between paper towels and press to dry them as much as possible.

Step Three

Place your chips on baking sheets keeping your vegetables segregated to their own baking sheet (ie: Sweet potatoes on one sheet, Kale on another sheet, etc.). Spray the vegetables lightly with cooking spray and season with Sea salt, pepper, and any others spices or flavorings that you would like. Carefully flip the vegetables over and repeat with cooking spray, seasoning and spices.

Step Four

Put the baking sheets in the oven and bake until the chips are crispy and dry, flipping over once halfway through the cooking time. Cook each vegetable as follows:

Russet Potatoes – Roughly 30 minutes

Sweet Potatoes – Roughly 25 minutes

Beets – Roughly 40 minutes

Kale – Roughly 20 minutes

Once cooled, your all-natural vegetable chips will keep in an air-tight container for up to 2 weeks. Enjoy this low calorie, high flavor snack at home with your kids or add them to lunch boxes and keep kids amused with their colorful look. The best part about making these at home is that you have complete control over the quality of the ingredients and the seasonings, making the possibilities endless with flavor combinations.
